Today's Football Betting News:
The waiting is almost over as the football season is now just a few short days away with the League One campaign being kicked off on August 2nd whilst the Championship and League Two begin a day later.
Football fans will always find the summer a frustrating time but with league action returning quicker than ever then hopefully most have not gone too stir crazy.
In the week building up to the start of the football league there are a huge amount of qualifying contests for both the Champions League and the Europa League. There may be some pretty obscure teams involved at this stage but there are also some really big guns.
Amongst those competing for a place in the group stage of the Champions League are Lyon, Fenerbache, Zenit St Petersburg and of course Scottish champions Celtic who are taking on Elfsborg.
At the midway point of the season the Premier League title could still got to any one of up to six different clubs, while the battle to avoid relegation is as tight as it ever has been at this stage with no one club cast adrift and as many as 10 clubs still looking over their shoulders. It all makes for one of the most exciting Premier League seasons in history and means that football bets are still being placed on every outcome at the top and bottom of the table.
Despite their sketchy away for Manchester City are the string Premier League title favourites at the midway point of the season, with Chelsea second favourites and Arsenal third in the betting. The Gunners have led the way for most of the campaign but, having not won a trophy for sometime now, punters and bookmakers alike are expecting that they’ll falter at some stage in the run in.
In the battle for a top-four finish and Champions League football Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester Untied and Everton are all battling it out for the one remaining position. Despite a below par start to the campaign United remain the betting favourites to finish in the op four, but they’ll be under severe pressure from improving opposition this campaign.
At the bottom, Crystal Palace, Cardiff and Hull are making a good fist of maintaining their Premier League status. It would be an extreme rarity if all three newly-promoted clubs were to avoid relegation in their first season back in the top flight. Sunderland, Fulham, Aston Villa and a handful of others are all also down at the wrong end of the table and scrapping for their lives.
Luis Suarez has a commanding lead in the Premier League golden shoe race and backing the Liverpool striker to score has been one of the most popular football bets of the season. With the transfer window now open there’ll be plenty of interest in the transfer betting markets and although there has been plenty of managerial casualties so far this season, there is sure to be a handful more before the season is over.
Football Betting News
Just prior to the new season starting is when the outright markets are at their most popular and potentially the most profitable. Of course this refers to promotions, relegations, play-off places and top scorers markets.
When it comes to the top goal scorer market there are some big names in the second level of English football and it is Blackburn’s Jordan Rhodes who has emerged as favourite to bag the most goals. The Scotland international is ahead of the likes of Reading’s Adam Le Fondre and Leicester City’s Chris Wood.
Similarly in League One it is a newly relegated team who are favourites to win the league and few would argue with the fact the Wolverhampton Wanderers have the best squad in the division, whilst it is their centre-forward Leigh Griffiths who is favourite to be top scorer.
The story is no different in League Two where beleaguered Portsmouth, relegated from League Two at the end of last season are expected to make a swift return. However, given their endless problems off the field they are not always the most reliable bet.
